PLAIN & TEXTURED FURNISHING FABRICS: GOING BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL LIGHT COLOURS

There is no doubt that textured fabrics in light colours such as ivory, beige, grey, white, olive green, mauve, etc. look great on sofas & ottomans. The obvious reason behind this is that you can easily recognize the texture from a distance without the need of even touching the fabric. Hence, a rugged or a crushed velvet sofa in beige can standout effortlessly in a room. In fact, to give a living room a luxurious and vintage look, textured furnishing fabrics in light colours could be the best option.

Though plain & textured furnishing fabrics look captivating in light colours, there is no reason that you can’t experiment with darker shades as well. A viscose velvet couch in burnt umber (dark brown), with plain pastel pink cushions would give a rich & luxurious appearance to any room. A darkish grey linen sofa (granular graphite textured), with matching cushions could help in accentuating a vintage look.

Let’s just say that you want to wow your guests with a single piece of furniture that they can’t stop admiring. A ribbed velvet couch in pigment red, with large rectangular cushions of the same colour may be the inspiration you are looking for. For that matter, a royal purple mohair couch (& ottomans) would not be too far from the ideal choice. The good thing about plain & textured furnishing fabrics is that they fit right in with most home décor styles. Also, if needed, they can complement other things in the room (when used in light colours),or just become the centre of attraction themselves (when used in bright or dark colours).
